Built for the trail. Comfortable enough for every ride.
The Trailmaster Westy Bareback Pad is designed for serious riding as well as those quick trips around the pasture. The Westy is built with an internal support core designed to help distribute pressure and protect your horse from concentrated pressure beneath the rider's seat bones.
The foundation begins with 1/2" 100% SAE pressed wool felt, followed by our support core and rigging panel. On top, we add our specially selected 1/2" foam for rider comfort, then finish the Westy in the leather combination of your choice.
The Westy is 22 inches along the spine. The drop, from the base of the withers to the rigging, is approximately 17 inches. The seat size on all of our bareback pads and soft saddles will accommodate most riders up to about a US womens 20-22 jean size.
For riders with particularly prominent seat bones, we recommend using a quality saddle pad or liner beneath the Westy for additional cushioning and pressure distribution.
Built layer by layer with the horse and rider in mind, the Westy gives you the close connection of bareback riding with considerably more support and comfort.
Choosing the Right Wither Relief
It is important to choose a wither relief that is high enough to prevent excessive pressure on your horse’s withers. Some horses are more sensitive to pressure in this area than others. When in doubt, it is better to have a little more wither relief than not enough.
We also offer Adjustable Wither Relief, which allows you to customize the amount of relief for your horse. If you choose this option, please watch the instructional video and make sure you understand how it should be installed and adjusted. Proper placement is important. If it is installed incorrectly, it could create a pressure point that may be uncomfortable for your horse.
Choosing Your Leather
Your Westy Bareback Pad is made in the leather colors of your choice. Please review our Leather Colors and Design page before ordering.
The Westy uses the 2-Color Panel design shown on the Leather Colors and Design page. When placing your order, use the order notes to list your leather selections. Please use the exact leather color names and color panel names shown on that page.
Using these names exactly helps us build your Westy Bareback Pad the way you intended and prevents confusion or delays with your order.
Optional Handle
The handle is an optional add-on and is not included with your bareback pad or Soft Saddle. If you would like a handle installed, please add the Handle to your cart from the Accessories section when placing your order.
Looking for a Saddle Pad? (we are currently working with JenX on a pattern for this model)
We’re excited to be working with Jen X Equine to give our customers a great option for saddle pads to use with their Trailmaster.
As a small, hands-on company, we’ve decided to focus our time and attention on what we do best—making Trailmaster Bareback Pads and Soft Saddles. Rather than stretching ourselves too thin by also making liners and saddle pads, we can direct our customers to a company that specializes in making them.
Jen X Equine is a well-respected USA company that makes quality saddle pads, including fitted options that pair beautifully with our Trailmaster products.
We believe this is a win for everyone: we can concentrate on building the best Bareback Pads and Soft Saddles we can, while our customers have access to saddle pads made by a company that specializes in doing just that.
